Veteran Bollywood actor Achyut Potdar, who has been a popular face in the entertainment industry, passed away on August 18 at the age of 91. Although not formally trained in acting, Potdar has been a part of more than 125 Hindi and Marathi films throughout his acting career.
Widely known for his role as a professor in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, Potdar entered the film industry at the age of 44 and will always remain one of the significant faces of Indian cinema. Let’s take a look at some of the popular films of Achyut Potdar:
3 Idiots
Achyut Potdar won hearts with his remarkable acting as a professor in Rajkumar Hirani’s 2009 hit film 3 Idiots. Potdar’s scene with Aamir Khan still remains one of the most hilarious scenes in the film. Alongside Aamir Khan, the film also starred R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani and others in prominent roles.
Dabangg 2
In 2012, Potdar was seen essaying the role of Debi Prasad in the Salman Khan-starrer action comedy Dabangg 2, grandfather of Anjali Prasad (played by Sandeepa Dhar). Alongside Salman Khan, the film also featured actors like Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Prakash Raj, and Mahie Gill, among others.
Bhoothnath
Achyut Potdar also appeared in Amitabh Bachchan’s widely acclaimed film Bhoothnath in 2008. In this film, Potdar was seen in the role of a temple priest. Helmed by Vivek Sharma, the supernatural comedy featured Juhi Chawla, Aman Siddiqui, Priyanshu Chatterjee, and Rajpal Yadav in prominent roles with a cameo appearance from Shah Rukh Khan.
Parineeta
In the 2005 musical romance film Parineeta, Achyut Potdar was seen essaying the role of Gurcharan, Lalita’s (played by Vidya Balan) father. Adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Bengali novella of the same name, Parineeta marked the debut of Vidya Balan. The film also cast Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Raima Sen, Sabyasachi Chakraborty and others in pivotal roles.
Aakrosh
Aakrosh marked Achyut Potdar’s debut in Bollywood. In this 1980 film, Potdar was seen in the role of a forest contractor. His remarkable acting and screen presence could not go unnoticed in the film. Alongside Potdar, the film starred Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, and Amrish Puri in prominent roles.
