Filmmaker and writer par excellence Anurag Kashyap who is known for titles like Satya, Black Friday, Dev.D, Gangs of Waseeypur and Sacred Games is back on the big screen with his latest film Nishaanchi. The director returned to familiar terrain of rooted story with a tinge on betrayal and romance. But the film is finding it difficult to find an audience at the ticket window. The film marks the debut of Bal Thackeray’s grandson Aishvary Thackeray in a double role and has failed to cross Rs 1 crore over its three day weekend. The film on its first day collected just Rs 25 lakh but it saw a major spike of more than 50 % to collect Rs 39 lakh on day 2. On day 3 the film’s collection dropped for it to collect just Rs 26 lakh as per Sacnilk, thereby taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 90 lakh.
The Times Of India in its reviews said ‘Nishaanchi’ is not a perfect film, but it is a compelling one. The runtime is heavy, and the songs don’t stay with you, but the world Kashyap builds and the performances make it worth sitting through. It mixes crime, comedy, and family drama in a way that feels both old-school and newThe film also stars Monika Pawar, Vedika Pinto, Kumud Mishra, Viineet Kumar Singh. Though before the release of the film there were talks about the film getting a second part as well but at this point going by the performance of the film, things look unsure. Also the thing with Anurag’s films usually is that they have a huge following when they hit the OTT platforms, with one of the producers a streaming platform itself – one could see the revival of the film.Anurag will be next seen as an actor in Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur’s Dacait which is slated to release on Christmas weekend . It would be clashing with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s Alpha and reboot of Anaconda with Jack Black and Paull Rudd.
