Eid-e-Milad (Mawlid al-Nabi) 2025 Date, History, Significance: Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, also known as Mawlid or Eid-e-Milad, is an important Islamic holiday that commemorates the birth anniversary of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad.
The Prophet also passed away on that same day, and Muslims worldwide observe the day by reflecting on the Prophet’s teachings and life.
Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated on the 12th day of the third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabi’ al-Awwal.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in 570 CE in Mecca, and this year, in 2025, it will start from the evening of Wednesday, September 3rd, until Thursday, September 4th.
According to legend, Muzaffar al-Din Gökböri was the first Muslim ruler to officially celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. In 1588, the Ottomans designated it an official holiday called Mevlid Kandil.

According to IslamicFinder.org, Muslims in the Middle East and other surrounding nations do not commemorate this occasion on 12 Rabi ul Awal or any other day of the month because the Prophet or his Companions have never celebrated the Prophet’s or any other prophet’s birthdays.
The day is said to hold immense significance, and as such, families come together to remember the good deeds of Prophet Muhammad.
People celebrate Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi by taking out large processions, with homes being decorated, and families celebrate the day by preparing and distributing Seviyan (vermicelli in sweetened milk).
