The CEOs of Google and Microsoft affirmed their commitment to America’s students and highlighted their investments in AI for educational purposes, during their visit to the White House on Thursday (September 4, 2025).
Taking part in the White House Task Force on AI Education, which was hosted by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, Google CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted how the company was offering Gemini for Education to every high school in America, expanding its AI for Education Accelerator programme to more colleges, and helping teachers to get AI training online.
“It’s an honor for me to be here and to support the First Lady’s Presidential AI Challenge. Through this initiative, you are inspiring young people to use technology in extraordinary ways,” said Pichai in his official remarks, adding, “We also recently committed $1 billion over the next three years to support education and job training programs in the U.S. And today, I’m excited to share that $150 million of that $1 billion will go towards grants to support AI education and digital wellbeing.”
Microsoft listed the measures it had taken to make AI more accessible to students, such as free Copilot in Microsoft 365 for college students, expanded access to Microsoft AI tools in schools, $1.25 million in educator grants, Free LinkedIn Learning AI courses for students and teachers, AI training for job seekers and certifications for community colleges, and free LinkedIn Learning AI courses for job seekers.
“We believe delivering on the real promise of AI depends on how broadly it’s diffused. This requires investment and innovation in AI education, training, and job certification. We applaud the leadership of the First Lady and the White House’s AI Education Task Force. They’re helping to forge a national AI education strategy and partnering with companies across the tech sector and business community,” said Microsoft in a blog post.
Ms. Trump in her own official remark highlighted the need for both encouragement and caution when helping children use AI.
“I predict AI will represent the single largest growth category in our nation during the Trump Administration—and I won’t be surprised if AI becomes known as the greatest engine of progress in the history of the United States of America. But, as leaders and parents we must manage AI’s growth responsibly. During this primitive stage, it is our duty to treat AI as we would our own children—empowering, but with watchful guidance. We are living in a moment of wonder, and it is our responsibility to prepare America’s children,” said Ms. Trump.
