Ad-filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar recently shared memories of Pooja Bedi and her late mother Protima Bedi. He recalled Protima’s fearless streak across a Mumbai beach, a boldness he admitted he could never match. While Prahlad once did a nude ad campaign with a hat covering himself, Protima and Kabir Bedi fully embraced the free-spirited, hippie lifestyle.
Pooja Bedi’s early modelling days
In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Prahlad Kakkar revealed that Protima Bedi once ‘dumped’ Pooja on him because she couldn’t control her. Pooja eventually started modelling for him. Prahlad recalled that she would refuse to use public transport, preferring to hitch rides across Mumbai. On one occasion, she came into the office with several duplicate Swatch watches and began distributing them to her colleagues.
The Swatch story
When Prahlad asked Pooja how she got the watches, she explained that the man who gave her a lift to Tardeo was a watch trader. He offered her one from his briefcase, and she politely asked for several to give to others, bringing them to the office. While Prahlad was impressed by her boldness, he also worried for her safety, asking, “Are you shameless? Don’t you think he could have taken advantage of you?”
A wild and captivating personality
Prahlad added, “She was something else. She was the maddest, wildest young lady I’ve ever met. She was amazing. There was nothing in the world that she thought that she couldn’t do. And she would get away with it. The entire office was distracted by her, because she was such as a good-looking girl.” In the same interview, he also recalled memories of a young Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra, as well as Salman Khan.
