A 20-year-old youth reportedly died after being bitten by a snake while sleeping at his home near Kadambur in Erode district on Saturday.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as M. Alumalai of Kottamalam. He was sleeping alongside his mother Lakshmi (38), a daily wage worker. At around 5 a.m., Alumalai woke up after feeling pain from a bite and alerted his mother, who saw a krait on the floor and raised an alarm. Neighbours assisted in taking him to the Sathyamangalam Government Hospital, from where he was referred to the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai, the police said.
Doctors at the Perundurai hospital declared him dead on arrival. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. Kadambur police have registered a case.
